Six members of Pleasant Grove VFD attended a Veterans Day ceremony Nov. 8. ALERT Academy held a banquet and presentation to honor veterans and public servants at their facility outside of Big Sandy. Jack Hetzel, a WWII veteran, gave the keynote address and urged his audience to “take one more step” by continuing to contribute in their daily lives. Hetzel is 102 years old and still going strong. ALERT and the Institute of Basic Life Principles coordinated to hold the event in “appreciation” of the veterans and public servants of the community.
